Gas cylinders and tanks in caravans and motorhomes

!: Gas cylinders and tanks in caravans and motorhomes

[if ]

I know! I know! LP tanks are boring! Well ... but since you can find all types of motor homes rv, including folding campers, truck campers, travel, and it is only 5 rolls to reason that since we use them we must also under-stand it. Remember, a liquid propane gas is stored under pressure, it is flammable and can be dangerous. Not only are there rules that are respected in their application needs, but laws have been adopted tothe safe use of liquid propane. All this is especially relevant for older devices and many buyers of these units who thought "got a flight" on the old trailer get a surprise when they learn the LP cylinders are "obsolete" and then "illegal".
OK, let's review some basics.

First, there are two types of tanks or bottles.

DOT (Department of Transport)

Department of container traffic is familiar to most of us. Youare
Vertically in style and are DOT cylinder considered.

- Is primarily to fold campers, truck campers, travel,
and 5 wheels.

- Can be removed from the vehicle recovery

- Usually used in a vertical position, but not always. Some can be used
horizontally, but each must be used in cylinder mode
which it was designed. (They are usually determined by the position in which they used to be marked)
Before l998 cylinderOPD can stand in both directions at once, this is not to be used
today as the DSB, the devices on all cylinders.ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) is required

Made to the code of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers

More often called "reservoirs"

Rule found in mobile homes

Are fixed-mounted

SERVICE VALVE ASME

-The word "vapor withdrawal"

If only for vapor withdrawal

(A separate fill tanks ASMEValve - one with the yellow cap)

Types of valves SERVICE

Three species were available for campers in recent history

1) was the most common GC POL 510 (Prestolite)

Characterized by its twist-pin 5 or 6 and handle
Metal pipe to connect the left hand

2) the OPD service valve with "quick disconnect", which is mainly used
is by industry and Grill not approved for use on recreational vehicles

Downstream couplings see used on the RV
Things that the gasGrills are not allowed to LPG bottle

3) Type I OPD service valve, which is now mandatory (l May 2002) and is
includes a thread 1 16:05 ACME "and is easily distinguished with its black
or the green jack for connecting the high pressure hose.

The rotary lock / open handle that three-pin
It is emerging as the new style.

"NOTE"

There is one exception however. You can race in style "POL"
Brass tube, leftConnectors with OPD devices. It is easy
seen as a screw cap / handle will not open old
Style pins 5 or 6, but will have the new 3-pin handle
will be clearly marked OPD. You can be sure that you not only
to date, but also legal.

DEVICE OPD (CCA)

OK, what's the big problem on the OPD device already mentioned? OPD Equipment
are now mandatory for all campers and cylinderTanks are a safety device
ensure that the bottles and tanks are not filled above the level of 80%.
(OPD devices were required on tanks since l984 and l998 of DOT cylinders ASME)

The device uses an internal float to the float valve which engages a piston, which in
in turn restricts the flow of liquid propane in the tank when it reaches the range of 80%.

Even if they are not infallible, for the most part, they achieve their purpose. It is obvious
Float devices differ between horizontal and vertical containers, bottles and so tanks
OPD devices must be used in the position (horizontal or vertical), for which they were designed.

Maximum track width FIXED LIQUID LEVEL INDICATOR

The fixed maximum liquid level gauge is another device that should know all rv'ers
and to understand its purpose. Below you will help set it apart from other devices.

Used to be determined the level of 80% inContainer

Part-valve DOT

Connected to a dip tube that in the cylinder and the amount of 80% to ASME tanks are physically located at 80% full, or it is equipped with an inner tube at 80% is.

How is it used

-Should always open (at last) when the tank is filled
When the steam-filling shall be issued until the liquid reaches the
80% level, when a "white mist" (liquid propane) issuedImportance
the tank is full.

If the tank is filled more than this level, excess propane must be
Bled off "until the steam is released to ensure container is not overfilled
In addition, to avoid possible future problems with the vessel.

For example, a container overflow to be dangerous if left in a vehicle after
or in the sun as the temperature rises, the pressure in the tank. Now you have a basic understanding of what you look forif you see a gas tank or cylinder and you will know if it is current. One last thing to note is the condition of the tank. Tanks that are either rusted or missing paint should be carefully checked for damage. If you have something on the tank or cylinder, doubt it will be tested by a specialist.
